More commonly, people are creating a dedicated area in their basement that elevates Home Entertainment to the next level. More and more video content is being delivered in UHD/4K every year. Almost all professional sports are shot in HD and optimized for 5.1 Surround sound and all feature films are being shot in Dolby Atmos. But what does that mean and how do you take advantage of it?
Surround Sound audio systems, use 3 or more speakers to "surround the listener" in 360 degrees of audio, creating a more in-depth experience. A 5.1 system has 3 front speakers providing foreground noise and vocals, and 2 rear speakers providing background noise with the low-end (bass) being driven to a subwoofer. A Dolby Atmos/Aura system starts with the same foundation with additional channels above the listeners seating arrangement and in the wall across from the main seating arrangement so that the vocals are more clear and the effect is truly encompassing.
